Shoe Week At Be Colorful Style - The Over-the Knee Boot

The Over-the Knee boot.

Would you?

Could you?

I'm tall and I think I would.

I think I might.

The more women I see wearing them the more agreeable I am to the idea.

I don't want to look like an aging Pretty Woman though so this will take a bit of finessing.

:D

Although I love the look of a soaring heel and an extra tall boot I need to be practical.

I can only wish that I was still forty
AND
hello! I live in Iowa. Enough said.

:D

A wedge seems a bit more casual.
I could get on board with a pair of these.

I think I could live in a low or flat heel version.

A boot like this has to be full enough to go over leggings and jeans and must either have a full zipper or an elastic back like this Stuart Weitzman.

Yes, I am looking forward to at least trying on a pair of these over-the-knee bad girls on.

Shoe Week - Pointed Toe Flats

It's Shoe Week here on Be Colorful Style.

If you missed yesterday's post, it was all about one of the five must have shoes for fall 2013
 - the ankle boot.

Today I would love to share one of my favorite looks; the pointed toe flat.

pointed toe skimmers will instantly dial up the style quotient of your outfit.

I love a ballet shoe as much as the next woman but these pointed versions give a sassy Audrey Hepburn vibe to what you are wearing.

They look amazing with pants,

The pointed toe visually lengthens the leg.

They also offer a more comfortable but chic and office appropriate look to a pencil or full skirt.

The pointed toe flat. Add to cart.

This Season's Must Have - The Ankle Boot

New York has fashion week
and
Be Colorful Style
has
SHOE WEEK!

All week I will be bringing you the most talked about trends in women's shoes and how to best wear them.

To "kick" off the week I'll be starting with an easy, works for everybody boot that was seen repeatedly on the runways and in the magazines.  This season's must have is the ankle boot.

What I love about this boot is that anybody can pull this one off.

The flat ankle boot looks great with a straight or skinny leg jean and is a stylish alternative to a shoe. This is an especially compelling option if you don't like or can't wear heels.

Alexander McQueen

If you have ever tried on a pair of boots while shopping and haven't been able to zip them up or struggled with the zipper and thought how will I ever be able to tuck a pair of jeans in here too? Then the ankle boot is for you. No more messy looks that can happen when too much pant is tucked into the taller version.

I also think this is a better choice if you are going with a patterned jean.  A sexy tall boot and all that pattern can be overkill.

The most popular styles of these ankle boots lean a bit casual, have a chunky stable heel, and look fabulous with skinny, straight, or boyfriend jeans.

J Crew

Sam Edelman
Loefler

I am smitten with the wedge ankle boots.

Sometimes, we want a bit of heel and I think the most comfortable and secure feeling heel out there is a wedge.  I live in the Midwest. By January it can be rather treacherous. Maybe it is because a wedge offers more contact with the ground but it makes me feel more sure footed.

A wedge ankle boot is definitely on my wish list this season.

If it isn't icy and you don't have far to walk or you have lost all the feeling in your feet anyway then why not rock a heeled ankle boot?

Viktor and Rolf

Tory Burch

Yes they are show stoppers with a skinny jean but they also look amazing with skirts.

After 40, and it is a matter of opinion, but I think that when paired with a skirt that they look best over tights.

Casual or dressier

the ankle boot is a look that just works this season.

Happy shopping.

Denim, Your Transitioning Staple For Fall

September. The month that can take us from still steamy days and sultry nights to crisp  mornings and invigorating evenings and then back again.

It's hot. It's cold. It's constantly changing. So what's a woman to wear?

Denim is the ubiquitous staple that can help us transition along with the temperature changes.

For starters a that simple denim vest that was just TOO HOT to wear a couple of weeks ago might layer nicely over any tank top or dress to bring it down a few formality notches.

A vest like this is perfect with a maxi skirt or a colored jean and a  tee.

I'm usually not a fan of denim skirts. I still have flashbacks of the long acid washed Ralph Lauren skirt  I wore for almost two years straight back in the 90's. I loved it then but it makes me cringe a bit now.

This inverted pleated number, though, from style icon Victoria Beckham proves that fashion is cyclical and even the overdone can look fresh again. Let's face it. If Victoria is doing it then we're going to look good.

:D

Work it with a flat pointed toe skimmer and a tailored shirt. Add a scarf at the neck or in your hair for some added polish. It could be great with a graphic tee and a boat shoe for a fun weekend look.

If you're feeling a bit edgier then team it up with an ankle boot and a jacket.

This denim dress from Soft Surroundings could be worn with a flat sandal or deck shoe early in the month and then paired with a legging and a boot when it gets cool enough to start layering.

Finally a must have in every woman's wardrobe is a denim jacket.

A favorite of mine this season is this moto version from The Gap.

Afraid to rock it with some skinny jeans?

Layer your jacket over a long white shirt the falls below the hips.
This longer length conceals but also gives the illusion of height.

Wear your jacket over a maxi dress, with a pair of skinny black jeans or colored twills.

Dial up your denim with leopard print, heels, or both.

Feel like your skirts are just hanging in the closet all forlorn and ignored?
Pair them with a denim jacket and flaunt your new wardrobe options.

Denim just might be your new black for fall.

Happy shopping.

Welcome to Be-Colorful-Style or You Can't Put A Number On It

A 50ish Life

So glad you stopped by.
Less that a month ago I wrote my first post on this blog which I had titled A 50ish Life.
My intent was to put together a  fashion blog for stylish women of a certain age with a fashion forward lean.

There are a lot of us out here that want to look our best and come across as confident, vibrant, and yes still sexy women.  We don't want to look like we are trying too hard or striving to look like our daughters but we also don't want to resign ourselves to thinking that our style ship has sailed. When I launched this blog I was hoping to write for other women like myself.   I wanted it to be apparent that this blog was for women that had moved beyond their first jobs, first babies, and first homes. I am writing for the woman that has moved up the career ladder, or is re-entering the job market, the woman whose oldest child is leaving for college or whose baby is moving out. I am writing for women that have a little more time and the means to focus on themselves.

But I needed a name.

A 50ish Life made sense to me.
I was hoping to direct my thoughts to women in their forties, fifties and beyond.  The reality didn't match my intentions.

Those under fifty were adamant that this wasn't for them.

While women in their sixties thought these looks would be too young for them.  There isn't some imaginary style line that we cross the day we turn thirty, forty, fifty, or sixty.  Subtle adjustments can make a fashion trend appropriate for every woman of any age.

The fun is in discovering what works and in learning from each other. I don't pretend to be an expert when it comes to fashion but I inherited a love of clothes from my mom who has a real feel for mixing colors and knowing what looks good .

I also have the benefit of an incredibly stylish daughter with a definite eye for small details with big impact. Lucky me.

Now, one month into this blog it has become obvious that a name change is in order.  My other blog, BeColorful, is all about my creative endeavors and living life colorfully.  It took me a while to realize it but now I know that the logical thing to do is to build on the name recognition there and to rename this blog

So Be Colorful Style it is.

The premise is the same. This will be my venue for  highlighting the trends,  learning how to make them work, and discovering where to find them.

I'd love to hear from you if there are particular issues you'd like to discuss or products you would like to know more about.

I hope you will continue to follow along.

You can find the blog
